Emergency Tree Removal in Edinburgh: Rapid Response After Storm Damage

1

Project Overview

Heartwood Tree Care was called out on an emergency basis to a private residential property in Edinburgh following severe storm conditions. A mature pine tree had snapped at the base and fallen directly onto the roof, posing an immediate risk to both the building structure and the safety of the occupants.

Our team acted quickly, delivering a full emergency response that included controlled dismantling, stump grinding, and complete site restoration.

The Challenge

Emergency tree work is often complicated by ongoing weather risks and unstable environments. In this case, our team was faced with several key challenges:

  • Severe storm conditions with high winds and rain during the initial callout
  • Structural vulnerability, with the tree lodged across the property’s roof
  • Client anxiety, requiring empathetic, clear communication and urgent action

To ensure the highest standard of care, safety, and property protection, we followed a phased approach under strict safety protocols.

Our Approach

Initial Emergency Assessment:

On arrival, the storm was still active. We conducted a full site risk assessment and determined that it was unsafe to proceed with removal at that time.

We secured the area, advised the client, and scheduled the return visit for the next safe weather window.

Follow-Up and Tree Removal:

Once conditions improved, our team returned and used precision dismantling techniques to safely remove the tree in manageable sections.

We coordinated with the homeowner to implement protective measures for the roof and working area.

Stump Grinding & Site Clean-Up:

After the removal, we ground the remaining stump to below ground level.

The site was left clean, tidy, and ready for restoration, with no debris or damage left behind.

  • Stump fully ground out and surrounding area cleared
  • Emergency response delivered within 48 hours of the original storm
  • Client safety and peace of mind prioritised at every stage
  • Minimal disturbance to the surrounding garden and lawn

Hear from the Client

“Having had the misfortune of having an enormous 80 year old pine tree crash into my house I was advised to contact Hartwood Tree Care. This was on the day of the recent severe storm and I was delighted when Andrew attended immediately and undertook to undertake substantial tree removal work within 2 days. That involved removing a huge tree from across the roof of my house. A task of considerable difficulty that was successfully accomplished by Andrew and his team by the Monday afternoon following the storm. They then attended slicing the tree into table top sizes sliced removing it from the rear garden and then undertaking the grinding out of the massive stump. All of this was attended to most promptly at what seems to me to be a very reasonable price and I was very grateful to have had the opportunity of engaging with Andrew and his colleagues. I can wholeheartedly recommend them on the basis of my dealings with them.” – Nigel Beaumont, Homeowner
